The deadline is Friday, June 20, 2025.
The purpose of the SAAB High School Graduate Scholarship is to recognize swimmers who exemplify the qualities of good sportsmanship and demonstrate a commitment to the SAAB swim team. The scholarship is designed to honor and assist students in fulfilling the goal of attending and graduating from a college or university. The scholarship is intended to maintain the bond between SAAB and the swimmer long after graduation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Scholarships will be awarded to seniors graduating in June of the academic year. The recipients will be chosen by the SAAB Executive Board. Selection will be based on a well-rounded swimmer. The Executive Board will consider the following in choosing the scholarship recipients:
- The swimmer has been a member of the SAAB swim team for at least two consecutive years
- College acceptance letter has been received
- Exhibited outstanding sportsmanship as a member of SAAB.
ADMINISTRATION
Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who are SAAB members in good standing. The scholarship will provide each swimmer with up to $500 (five hundred dollars). The amount of the scholarship will be determined annually and will be based upon the budgeted funds divided equally among the number of qualified applicants.
To be considered, a completed application must be received by June 20th of the year of high school graduation. If all application material is not received by the June 20th deadline, the swimmer will not be considered for the scholarship. A completed application includes:
- Application Form (found in on the right side of this page)
- Copy of acceptance notification from an institute of higher education
- Copy of swimmer’s verification of acceptance to the institute of higher education
- A 250-word essay describing the swimmer’s experience with SAAB
Selection will be made by the SAAB Executive Board using a standardized rubric. The Award Rubric can be found on the last page of the application. Children or relatives of the Executive Board members are not eligible to apply unless the member excuses himself/herself from the selection process. Recipients will be notified by July 1st through email.
Before receiving any funds, applicants chosen to receive the SAAB High School Graduate Scholarship must submit verification of enrollment at a higher educational institution. This can be in the form of the student’s commitment letter and deposit. The scholarship funds shall be made payable to the educational institution and sent directly to that institution. It is the recipient’s responsibility to provide the address of the proper office at his or her college.
All documents submitted to SAAB become the property of SAAB and shall not be returned. Documents of the scholarship receiving swimmers will be retained as part of SAAB’s permanent records. All other applicants’ documents will be destroyed at the end of the calendar year, i.e. by December 31st.
The Executive Board may choose to interview the applicants. All decisions of the Executive Board are final and are not subject to appeal.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
The selection committee shall consist of the Executive Board of SAAB. No member of the Executive Board may have a swimmer applying for the scholarship in the year that the scholarship is awarded, nor with whom there is a personal relationship unless the member excuses himself from the selection process. Per the SAAB bylaws, the Executive Board is comprised of:
- President of SAAB
- Vice President of SAAB
- Secretary of SAAB
- Treasurer of SAAB.
FUNDING
A pool of money will be budgeted each year as part of the SAAB budget. This pool will be equally divided between all qualified applicants who are chosen to receive the scholarships.
