Swim Meet 101

A Parent’s Guide for Every Swim Meet!

Reminder:  NO GLASS ALLOWED at meets due to safety issues

What to Bring

  • Printed copy of the Heat Sheet (posted on the Schedule tab Friday afternoons)
  • Team swimsuit, cap, goggles (an extra pair of goggles is a good idea!), team t-shirt, towel(s), and sunscreen.  LABEL EVERYTHING!
  • Plenty of smart snacks and drinks to keep your swimmer hydrated and energized.  All meets have concessions during the meet.
  • Games for your child for time in between meets (travel games, books, DS, etc.)
  • Warm clothing to put on after swimming or while waiting (important in mornings )
  • Folding camp chairs to sit on, and a canopy for shade if you have one.
  • Event reports/heat sheets printed from the website, and a black sharpie marker for marking up your child
  • Sharpie for Adults only, else, you may have leopard spotted or pirate looking kids coming home with you…

Upon Arrival

  • Be on Time!  Warm-ups begin well before the meet start time.
  • If swimmers are late to warm ups, they may be scratched from their relay...
  • Swimmers report to age group area and are checked in by Zoo age group parent(s).
  • Ensure your swimmer has sunscreen on and is marked up with his/her event information.  Use Sharpie BEFORE sunscreen.  Spray sunscreen smears sunblock – use lotion block in marking area  (Age group parents can help new swimmer parents with marking up their swimmer).
